Stained Ash Shanks
Natural Ash shanks treated by immersion with light brown stain. Ash being the hard wood that it is, the stain is taken up very evenly on the bark, but only superficially over the dressed knots...so these may be very easily dressed to reveal a nice contrasting lighter underlying colour...a very striking effect when done over the full length of these heavily knotted shanks. Every bit as strong as Natural ash.
Only standard ( 7/8" - 1" ) weights available at the present time, no light or heavy weights. Working grade are only very slight seconds, perfectly serviceable, typically having a corrected dogleg or a small less than perfectly straightened section.
Fumed Chestnut Shanks
Stripped Chestnut, carefully dried then fumed using ammonia, resulting in a unique, rich, mid brown finish which will complement a wide variety of tops.
All shanks in range 50" - 54"
PREMIUM - very best available,show standard straightness and taper
STANDARD - good everyday stick, well balanced and very well straightened.
Generally 22 - 26mm tops
HEAVY - as standard but 26 - 30mm tops.
LIGHT WEIGHT - Tops are 21mm or less.
WORKING GRADE - well straightened, but may have the odd minor kick in them or slight damaged bark - ideal beaters or selling sticks
CHESTNUT
Our best selling shank, currently overstocked, so we have 600 pieces set aside on offer as long as that stock lasts!!!!....be quick!!!!!
Seasoned & straightened....strong, nicely tapered, rich burgundy / chocolate coloured bark with interesting, regular figuring around the numerous, carefully dressed knots. Take a beautiful oiled finish.

1.5 - 1.6m ( 5' - 5'4" ) in length and with 28 - 32mm tops. Standard and premium grades stocked.
STRIPPED CHESTNUT
Same material as regular chestnut but stripped and longer air dried. The knotting still very much a feature, many of our regular customers for these are fond of pyrographing designs onto them.
PREMIUM - very best available,show standard straightness and taper.
STANDARD - good everyday stick, well balanced and very well straightened.
LIGHT WEIGHT - Tops are 21mm or less.

ASH
European ash. Long slow growth in colder Eastern European areas bestows density and strength on these sticks.
Natrural bark is greeny grey with withg a selection of interesting patterning going on. Prominent knotting.
52" - 54" in length.

CRAB APPLE
Apple have the richest and best figured bark of all of our shanks with prominent regular knotting and take a great oiled finish.

Stripped, then stained mid/navy blue , these add a nice "contemporary" countrystyle appearance to the shank line up.
The colour compliments any manner of tops from ram's horn and timber through to buffalo and stag & sits very well indeed with the everyday tones of the great outdoors!!!
